780 Korean Government Scholarship

Each year, the Korean Government offers a great scholarship program named Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for the students from all over the world to pursue their education in Korea.  780 scholarships are available for students seeking to continue their master’s degree studies in Korea. KGSP are full scholarships that cover all expenses including travel, tuition fee and other expenses.

    • PhD – 4 years including one year Korean Language training
    • Master – 4 years including one year Korean Language training
    • Research – 6 months

Important dates:

  • Application deadline: February- March. Varies by each Korean embassy
  • First Selection: March
  • 2nd round selection: April 23-24
  • Result: May 1, 2018
  • 3rd round: May2-June 1 2018
  • June 19: final result

Number of scholarships: 780

  • 470 scholarships are applied and tracked by embassies that 450 of are for the candidates from 146 countries including Afghanistan and 20 of them for overseas Koreans.
  • 305 scholarships are applied and tracked by universities that applicants from 80 countries (not including Afghanistan) can apply to this scholarship.
  • 5 Scholarships are for Research Program


The scholarship covers all expenses including the following

  • full tuition fee,
  • flight ticket,
  • Monthly allowance
  • Settlement allowance
  • Language training
  • Health insurance
  • Grant for degree completion

Who can apply

Applicants must adhere the following eligibility requirements:

  • National of any country other than Korea
  • Obtaineh or expected to get their bachelor’s degree before 31.8.2018 for Master studies
  • Hold or expected to hold their master’s degree before 31.8.2018 for PhD studies
  • Have graduated  or expected to graduate their master’s degree before 31.8.2018 for research studies and received invitation from the participating Korean university
  • Age under 40 on the start of the program – 01, September, 2018,- born after 1.9.1978
  • 45 years applicants who are working as a professor in Afghanistan, Armenia, Belarus, Angola, Algeria, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Uganda, Syria, Tajikistan, South Africa, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Thailand, Pakistan and other countries that you can find the list on the application guideline linked below. They should be born after September 1, 1973
  • Holding a bachelor degree from Korean universities are not eligible
  • The Grade Point Average (GPA) must be 80 or higher
  • Be in good health and submit the Personal medical assessment when apply

The preference will be given to those who have English language proficiency score, natural science and engineering applicants and applicants from low income families.

  • Personal statement
  • Statement of purpose
  • 2 Recommendation letters
  • Personal medical assessment
  • Bachelor’s degree diploma and transcript
  • Master’s degree and transcript for research and PhD applicants
  • Research proposal for research applicants
  • Certificate of expected graduation time for those who are not graduated yet.
