Opportunity Description

“Innovating Central Asia” Seminar welcomes promising undergraduate students from Central Asia to share their viewpoints regarding threatening security issues in the region. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s (OSCE) Program Office in Astana, Kazakhstan will organize this event to enhance the seminar participants’ critical thinking skills and encourage a co-operative approach among students by participating in panel discussions, interactive exercises, with their fellow students, CAYN alumni, and seminar organizers.

Deadline: 21 May 2018

Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan

Program date: 26 to 28 June, 2018

Language: English and Russian

Eligibilities:

  • Must have more than 18 years old during travel
  • Undergraduate students studying in universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Afghanistan
  • English and Russian language proficiency

Required assignment

Candidates must submit one of the following:

  • An English ESSAY answering what are the fundamental requirements for emerging change in Central Asia? (Max. 500 words)
  • A video speaking in English or Russian presenting your suggested innovation (problem solving) in Central Asia in any field. (Max. 1-minute)

Essay evaluation criteria:

  • Original personal point of view regarding the problem
  • Ability to challenge current beliefs
  • Demonstration of reasoning
  • Intelligent related comments
  • Clear structure
  • Works must not be plagiarized.

Videos evaluation criteria:

  • Files must be .MP4 and .MOV format
  • Maximum file size for all formats is 50MB
  • Do not contain music
  • Introduce your full name at the beginning of the video
  • File name format must be fullname.cayn2018
  • Upload the video through Google account

Note: OSCE also encourages CAYN alumni to apply. Five funded places are reserved for them. CAYN alumni are required to complete a separate application form which is available in this link: goo.gl/GFND8g
