Introduction to the program

ADAPTED_ a consortium of European Universities has launched an initiative to offer early-stage researchers from around the world an opportunity to undertake PhD-level research in a myriad of fields in Europe. This program is conducted as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “ADAPTED”. The European Joint Doctorate is a consortium of European Universities, internationally prominent and active European development organizations and think tanks, and six African partner universities.

The below-mentioned host institutions will host the ESRs, guide their research, organize training and implement the European Joint Doctorate (EJD) based on project-specific binational agreements.

Program components and objectives

The ADAPTED includes research and training program:

The Primary Aim of the EJD ADAPTED is to deliver high-level training with intersectoral relevance in:

  • Validating paths towards poverty elimination,
  • Analyzing interactions between poverty reduction and other policy areas, and
  • amplifying the impact of poverty reduction policies

Furthermore, it is offered to high-achieving early-stage researchers (ESRs) to bridge the current knowledge gap in exploring poverty dynamics and by equipping the ESRs with a unique skill sets that is equally attractive for research organizations, development organizations, and internationally active corporations.

The program comprises of three Work Packages (WP) as follows:

  • Validating pathways (5 positons)
  • Analyzing interactions (5)
  • Optimizing the impact (5)

Benefits

  • 3720 Euro of living stipend per month
  • Mobility allowance of 600 Euro/month
  • Family allowance of 500 Euro/month for researchers whose family members are with them.

Eligibilities

  • Early-stage researchers who have a Master’s Degree or equivalent from a preeminent university in any of the above research fields are welcome to apply.
  • Candidates shall demonstrate a strong interest in interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral research as well as a specific interest in the ADAPTED research fields.
  • Candidates must have fewer than 4 years of postgraduate research experience at the time of employment.
  • Applicants can be of any citizenship but must not have lived or done any main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the host counties for over 12 months in the last 3 years prior to being recruited as ESR.

In accordance with the European rules of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN regulations for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs), the recruiting institutions seek to hire a gender-balanced group of candidates.

Required documents

  • Motivation letter (not more than 2 pages) explaining the interest in the particular ESR project the application is referring to (1st priority ESR). Applicants interested in more than just one ESR project should present this information in the motivation letter by stating a 2nd and max. 3rd priority.
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (please use the Europass template)
  • Certified copies of relevant university degree certificates and related transcripts.
  • Standard English language proficiency certificate (equivalent to CEFR level C1 = TOEFL 94, IELTS 7)
  • Short literature review (4-5 pages) related to the topic of the ESR project which is the 1st priority of the candidate.
  • At least two academic recommendation letters
  • Copy of the passport valid at least until the end of 2021. Applicants with two or more nationalities can use just one passport and apply only once.
