Job summary

CRS is looking for a qualified Field Assistant (FA) Couple (Male/Female) in Herat to execute day-to-day activities on an education project aiming to deliver quality education to students in Herat Province. Project activities will serve students in Community Based Education (CBE) classes and students in Education in Emergencies (EiE) classes.  Therefore, under the supervision of a District Coordinator (DC), the FA Couple will be expected to develop and maintain connections with recipient communities, work closely with Shuras, and support the DC to oversee project progress. Also, under guidance from the District Coordinator and the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Project Officer (PO), the FA will gather and document relevant project data and information for internal and external reporting purposes.

Currently, the CRS/Afghanistan Education Program encompasses several projects in Central and Western Afghanistan.  All projects contribute to CRS’s educational program goal to further quality learning and life opportunities in Afghanistan for marginalized communities and their children.

Job description

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Support for Project Implementation

  • Work closely with village Shuras and community elders to conduct training and project activities.
  • Pay frequent monitoring visits to target classrooms.
  • Listen to and meet with School Shuras monthly.
  • Conduct regular meetings with community leaders, beneficiaries, and parents to discuss CBE education activities, and encourage them to send children to school
  • Communicate forthcoming events to communities (workshops, exchange visits, meetings)
  • Communicate community concerns to the District Coordinator and M&E
  • Assist the DC to coordinate with DED and MoE hub school principals to support the registration and enrollment of students, handover of exam results, and teacher salary payments.
  • Closely work with other Education colleagues to promote successful handover of community-based classes to the MoE by supporting the relationship between community-based teachers, school shuras, hub schools, and DED.
  • Realize and communicate CRS Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct to Shura and Teachers
  • Communicate CRS Reporting Mechanisms to community participants
  • Record related information from monitoring activities (including information from field visits, pre- and post-test results from training, and any informal feedback from target communities)
  • Participate in staff training on groundbreaking technical skills
  • Share field stories and photos with the Senior Project Officer every month for the write-up.
  • Utilize several methods to collect quantitative and qualitative data
  • Participate in project learning and reflection events

Job requirements

Be an Afghan national with a high school degree or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years related work experience with an NGO or government organization, preferably in the field of education for an NGO.

Be fluent in Dari (speaking and writing); Pashto speaking and writing an addition.

Travel – The position will be based in Herat with frequent travel to target communities/districts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Robust familiarity with the education system in Afghanistan.
  • Experience working in rural communities is desirable.
  • Experience monitoring projects and collecting related data.
