Opportunity Description

Overview of the challenge

The submission for the World Bank’s Mission Billion Challenge is now open. MIT Solve runs it in cooperation with World Bank, Identification for Development (ID4D), and some other institutions.

The Challenge is looking for innovative solutions to enhance inclusion, gender equality, and access to digital platforms such as identification systems. Therefore, this challenge will gather solutions to make ID systems more accessible and responsive to the needs of vulnerable and marginalized populations, such as informal workers, specifically while countries seek to leverage digital technologies and platforms to convert services to online channels and deliver cash relief to those affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

So, if you have creative ideas to transform the lives of people, apply for this challenge.

As far as Solve runs many open innovation Challenges each year, it offers funding, mentorship, technical knowledge, strategic business advice, and resources at MIT to selected innovators.

Eligibility

  • Anyone anywhere in the world who has an innovative and transformative idea in relation to the Challenge’s theme can apply.

What this prize seeks to do?

The Global Prize is seeking solutions that respond to these specific needs:

  • How can countries ensure that everyone—especially susceptible groups—are able to apply/register for an ID in a way that does not endanger people’s health and the integrity of the ID system?
  • What can countries do to assure that digital authentication mechanisms—which mostly require smartphones, computers, and/or internet access—are reachable and user-friendly for marginalized and vulnerable people to facilitate remote access to services and benefits?
