AFS offers the AFS Award for Young Global Citizens each year to identify and appreciate the work and commitment of young people to work toward making a positive change and improving the global community and whose actions contribute to a more just, peaceful and tolerant world.

The Friendship Ambassadors Foundation (FAF), a not-for-profit organization since 1958, established The Youth Assembly in 2004. FAF and its principal program, The Youth Assembly, are now part of AFS Intercultural Programs, an international, non-governmental, voluntary, non-profit organization that delivers intercultural learning opportunities to help people acquire the knowledge, abilities, and comprehension necessary to establish a more equitable and peaceful world.

Youth Assembly program

The Youth Assembly Program includes the following:

Eligibilities:

To apply for this award, you must first apply to Youth Assembly.

Accepted delegates to the youth assembly can apply for the award through the registration portal upon acceptance. Non-delegates are not eligible to apply. The award application requires applicants to showcase the real-life impacts of their project, their intercultural understanding and global competence, and their potential for scaling up.

Here is the eligibility criteria for youth assembly applicants:

  • Must be between the age range of 18 to 32 years old.
  • A proven record of leadership experience or involvement in school or community activities.
  • Delegates must be keenly interested in global affairs, sustainable development, and youth-related issues.
  • English proficiency at an intermediate level is necessary.

Conditions of AFS award for Young Global Citizens:

  • The submission project must have recorded between January 2018 and January 2020 or must be in progress. Both of them should reflect the demonstrated success through setting goals.
  • Make clear how their project meets the pressing global issue, address one or more challenges of UN SDGs and its impact in real-life.
  • Demonstrate how their project involves others successfully outside their community or culture and how this aspect is crucial to develop their work.
  • Show the quality of their projects with their outstanding impact.

 How to apply:

Interested applicants should first apply to the 28th youth assembly program and then can apply to this award if they are accepted in youth assembly.

Participation at youth assembly is not free. if you want to apply, consider the following fees according to timeline:

  • Regular →applicatoins from February 10 to April 28, 2023 → $445
  • Late → applications from April 29 to June 30, 2023 → $495
