Opportunity Description

Fellowship overview

Applications are now open for the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity program 2021-22 based at the International Inequality Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science. It is a funded fellowship intended to help bold and aspiring individuals learn about the social and economic inequalities, challenge power and fulfill their dreams of changing the world toward a more equitable path through collective and cooperative approaches.

So, if you are a change-maker dedicated to combating inequality, keen to learn from academics, innovators, activists, and social change organizations, and the latest academic research and expert insights on inequalities, it is the right program for you to join a lifelong global network of peers.

Application deadline: 31 January 2021

Host institution: International Inequalities Institute

Location: Residential and Non-residential

Duration: One year

The fellowship program entails two different tracks: Residential and Non-Residential:

  • Members of the Residential track also undertake an MSc in Inequalities and Social Science at LSE during their active fellowship year.
  • Fellows in both tracks participate in rigorous academic coursework, leadership and skills development, and practical approaches to nurturing social change.
  • upon completion of the program, the Atlantic Fellows join a lifelong community of senior Fellows from all seven Atlantic Fellows programs.

Applicants to the program must meet the following eligibility criteria.

The criteria apply to both tracks of the fellowship.

  • Applicants must be eligible for admission to the London School of Economics’ MSc in Inequalities and Social Science. These requirements include:
  • A 2:1 degree or equivalent in any field.
  • A background in social science and/or work experience in the social policy field are additions but not necessary.
  • Candidates for the non-residential track should have completed a 2:1 undergraduate degree or its comparable degree in any discipline, however, in exceptional cases, work experience may be accounted for in lieu of a formal higher education requirement.
  • Applicants must fulfill LSE’s standard English Language Requirement.
  • Applicants must possess 7 to 10 years of experience demonstrating boldness, care, leadership, and commitment in promoting equitable solutions to inequality.
  • Applicants who have earned a Ph.D., who have completed an MSc within the last three years, or who are currently studying for a degree, will not normally be eligible for the Residential track.
  • The program is open to applicants from around the globe.

Selection preference

The host institution is looking to build a diverse cohort of fellows reflecting various perspectives. So it is especially keen to support applicants:

  • Who live in the global South (particularly Africa, the Far East, the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent).
  • Who do not otherwise have the resources to support their participation in activities such as these, especially people from the Global South.
  • Who have not already experienced significant access to fellowships or scholarships.

In consideration of this, it applies the following criteria in selection:

  • Experience
  • Having a clear vision and prospect for future impact
  • Commitment and readiness

You may be in search of other fellowships too.

How to apply?

Applicants must submit their applications online, via LSE’s Graduate Admissions online portal.
