Overview

The application for the Financial Hardship Scholarship at the Canadian University Dubai, UAE, is open now.

The objective of these scholarships is to improve access to higher education to students having financial hardship. Therefore, a tuition waiver of up to 30% can also be applied as evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Recognizing the financial pressure that COVID-19 pandemic imposed on families in our communities, to help where possible, CUD is offering a 30% drop in fees to both new and returning students for all undergraduate and graduate disciplines for the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. Notably, CUD understands the value of differences and diversity and, therefore, does not want financial restrictions or special needs to hamper an outstanding education.

Scholarship benefits

A 30% reduction in tuition fees also applies to the Financial Hardship Scholarships, too. And, students themselves need to pay other amounts payable to study onto this scholarship.

Eligibility conditions

To be eligible for these scholarships, you should satisfy the following requirements:

  • All students of any nationality who meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to apply.
  • Enrolling as full-time students in four academic courses per semester is recommended; however, specifying the exact number of courses to enroll in will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Scholarships can be awarded for credit-bearing courses only.
  • Students must achieve the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) necessary in order to continue to receive scholarship funding.
  • For high school candidates to be qualified, they must hold a minimum academic achievement of 75%.
  • Returning students should score a minimum of a 2.8 CGPA out of 4.0 to be qualified to apply/ reapply for the Sports Scholarship.
  • Successful applicants will have to contribute up to 15 hours/month of community service as part of their commitment to the CUD.
  • Financial Hardship Scholarships are not for summer semesters at CUD.
  • Available scholarships are only valid for the tuition fees currently applicable at CUD.
  • Financial Hardship Scholarships are ONLY valid for one semester, and students need to re-apply.
  • The scholarship committee will reject incomplete scholarship applications.

Further conditions

Students can apply for more than one CUD scholarship, providing that they meet the eligibility requirements. In the event, a student qualifies for more than one reduction, scholarship, or discount; the student will be allowed to choose the scholarship bearing the highest value.

Applicants must pay all remaining fees (tuition and accommodation) immediately in order to receive and reserve the scholarship. Furthermore, the number of scholarships given is limited, so the scholarship fund depends upon the specific criteria outlined above.

Language requirements

All students have to provide an English competency certificate, such as TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE-A (Pearson Test of English Academic) or an equivalent standardized internationally renowned English language test. The minimum score necessary for each study level is different. Read more here.

Candidates must email their scholarship application forms along with all additional documents to scholarship@cud.ac.ae. You can also submit an online application through CUD’s website.

Applications for the Financial Hardship Scholarship must include:

  • A completed application form
  • A current rental contract
  • Bank statements
  • Employee certificate and salary statement for each employed member of the family
  • Copy of passport and visa for all employed family members (or both parents)
  • Finally, certificates of educational tuition fees for each sibling is necessary.
