Introduction

The application for Sports Scholarship at the Canadian University of Dubai is open now.

Recognizing the financial pressure that COVID-19 pandemic imposed on families in our communities, to help where possible, CUD is offering a 30% drop in fees to both new and returning students for all undergraduate and graduate programs for the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. Worthwhile to say, CUD values differences and diversity and therefore does not want financial limitations or special needs to hamper an excellent education.

Specifically, Sports Scholarship is available to elite and brilliant athletes from any sport who have competed and gained success at least at a city level. Applicant’s sports achievement level and academic excellence are key to receiving a sports scholarship.

Scholarship benefits

The Sports Scholarships are offered with a 30% reduction in tuition fees. And, students themselves need to pay other amounts payable to study onto this scholarship.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, you should meet the requirements below:

  • Scholarships are open to all students of any nationality who meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Students should enroll as full-time students in four academic courses or more per semester.
  • Scholarships can be awarded for credit-bearing courses only.
  • Students must achieve the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) necessary in order to continue to receive scholarship funding.
  • Sports Scholarships do not apply for summer semesters at CUD.
  • Available scholarships are only valid for the tuition fees currently applicable at CUD.
  • Sports Scholarships are ONLY valid for one semester and students need to re-apply.
  • For high school applicants to be qualified, they must possess an academic achievement of at least 70%.
  • Returning students are required to achieve a minimum of a 3.0 CGPA out of 4.0 to be eligible to apply/ reapply for the Sports Scholarship.
  • Successful applicants will have to support the sports department in different events and will need to contribute up to 15 hours/month of community service as part of their commitment to the University.
  • Incomplete scholarship applications or those reaching late will not be evaluated by the scholarship committee.

Further conditions

Students can apply for more than one CUD scholarship, providing that they meet the eligibility criteria. In case a student is eligible for more than one reduction, scholarship, or discount, the student will have the chance to choose the scholarship bearing the highest value.

Students must pay all remaining fees (tuition and accommodation) immediately in order to receive and reserve the scholarship. Furthermore, the number of scholarships given is limited, so the amount payable depends upon the specific criteria above.

Language requirements

All students need to provide an English competency certificate, such as TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE-A (Pearson Test of English Academic) or an equivalent standardized internationally renowned English language test. The minimum score necessary for each study level is different. Read more here.

Applications for the Sports Scholarship must include:

  • A completed application form.
  • A brief bio of the applicant, including related sports achievements.
  • Scanned copies of reference letters from the applicant’s coach and/or PE teacher on institutional letterhead.
  • Scanned copies of certificates pertaining to the sport the applicant is applying for.
