Scholarships:

KAIST offers Scholarship that provides the following (choose the KAIST scholarship while filling the form)

  • Tuition fee exemption
  • Monthly stipend of KRW 350,000 for Masters and KRW 400,000 for Ph.D. students
  • Medical Health Insurance fee

Who can apply?

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree for Master’s degree program and a bachelor’s and a master’s degree for Ph.D. studies.
  • By February, 2024, applicants for doctoral programs must submit an integrated program application or proof of a master’s degree.
  • This is only open to international students who are not dual citizen holders.
    • Korean citizens who hold dual citizenship are ineligible for KAIST International Graduate Admission cycles; applicants must be citizens of a country other than Korea.
    • International Korean applicants MUST also meet ONE of the following two requirements, regardless of where they were born:
      1. The applicant must have completed their entire elementary, junior high, and high school education OUTSIDE of Korea at the comparable and equivalent level of education in Korea. In this instance, international schools in Korea are not recognized as being foreign institutions of higher learning.
      2. NEITHER of their parents must be Korean citizens.

Note: Applications of Korean ethnicity should include the Certificate of the Facts Concerning the Entry & Exit issued by the Korean Immigration Office if the applicant’s entire education (elementary, junior high, high school, and undergraduate) was completed outside of Korea. Within one month of the online application deadline, the certificate should have been issued.

Language Requirements:

English is the official language of communication and instruction at KAIST for international students. All International Admission applicants must provide at least one of the following English proficiency test (EPT) scores:

  • You are able to request a waiver of the requirement to prove an EPT score if you meet
    one of the following conditions:

    1. You do not need to provide an EPT score if you hold citizenship of the following countries OR have completed a qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or higher from the following countries:
      Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, U.K., U.S.A.
    2. You do not need to provide an EPT score if you hold citizenship of the following countries AND have completed a qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or higher in English as the medium of instruction from the following countries:

Botswana, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Federated States of Micronesia, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Republic of South Africa, Sudan, Republic of South Sudan, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe

      • A certificate proving the medium of instruction must be supplemented. i.e., English Lecture Certificate

3. Those enrolled in KAIST’s regular degree programs DO NOT need to provide an EPT score.

    • Undergraduate students who expect to graduate in February 2023
    • Graduate students who expect to graduate in February 2023
      * Those enrolled in the following programs and didn’t submit an EPT score during the application are not eligible for a waiver: GDI-ITTP track, KINS-KAIST, RCA-KAIST, KOICA-KAIST SEMBA

    • Select your financial resources.
    • At this point, you can apply for a KAIST Scholarship.
    • Apply online and pay the KRW 80,000 (or USD 80) application fee.
    • After your payment, the system will automatically send emails to your referees with information and guidelines for uploading recommendation letters.
  • Print the application form and keep it for further procedures.
  • Send a hard copy of the application print with supporting documents to the given address of the admission office.
  • Check your email regularly (for the interview and other notifications)

  • Two letters of recommendation from your university professor, academic advisor, or supervisor form your company (electronically sent)
  • Certified Academic Degrees diploma or transcripts received within the last two years. In case you have not obtained these documents, you can submit official letters stating your expected graduation date.

  • Identity document of the applicants (preferably passport)
  • A copy of the identity document of parents
  • Family relation certificate
  • The Certificate of the Facts Concerning the Entry & Exit (ONLY for applicants of Korean ethnicity)
    The Certificate of the Facts Concerning the Entry & Exit issued by the Korean Immigration Office and official certificates or letters of completion from the primary and secondary schools are required for applicants of Korean ethnicity who wish to demonstrate their eligibility with their entire education completed outside Korea.
