Each year, the Korean Government offers a great scholarship program named the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for students from all over the world to pursue their education in Korea.  1278 scholarships are available for students seeking to continue their master’s degree, PhD or Researchin Korea. KGSP are full scholarships that cover all expenses including travel, tuition fee, and other expenses.

    • PhD – 4 years including one year of Korean Language training
    • Master – 4 years including one year of Korean Language training

Important dates:

  • Application deadline: February- March. Varies by each Korean embassy

  • 3rd round: May28-June 1
  • Mid-June: final result

Number of scholarships: 1378

  • 650 scholarships are applied and tracked by embassies that 606 of are for the candidates from 146 countries including Afghanistan, 20 of them for overseas Koreans and 30 Korean Language Teaching Professionals
  • 610 scholarships are applied and tracked by universities that applicants from 77 countries (not including Afghanistan) can apply to this scholarship.
    • 430 general candidates
    • 180 Science and Engineering majors of Regional University applicants
  • 5 Scholarships are for Research Program

The scholarship covers all expenses including the following

Who can apply

Applicants must adhere to the following eligibility requirements:

  • National of any country other than Korea
  • Obtained or expected to get their bachelor’s degree before 31.8.2021 for Master studies
  • Hold or expected to hold their master’s degree before 31.8.2020 for PhD studies
  • Have graduated  or expected to graduate their master’s degree before 31.8.2021 for research studies and received an invitation from the participating Korean university
  • Age under 40 on the start of the program – 01, September 2021,- born after 1.9.1981
  • 45 years applicants who are working as a professor in Afghanistan, Armenia, Belarus, Angola, Algeria, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Uganda, Syria, Tajikistan, South Africa, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Thailand, Pakistan and other countries that you can find the list on the application guideline linked below. They should be born after September 1, 1976
  • Holding a bachelor degree from Korean universities are not eligible
  • The Grade Point Average (GPA) must be 80 or higher
  • Be in good health and submit the Personal medical assessment when apply

The preference will be given to those who have English language proficiency score, natural science and engineering applicants and applicants from low-income families.

Starting from 2022 GKS-G program, NIIED will only accept apostilled or consular confirmed documents for part of the application documents. Please refer to the attached file for further information.

This notice is to provide prospective applicants with appropriate time to prepare the required documents since we are aware that certain documents require lead time to be authenticated in some countries.

The full set of application guidelines for 2022 GKS Graduate degree program will be released in February 2022. For now, please refer to 2021 application details for the time being.
