Opportunity Description

There are different types of Scholarships offered at Saitama University in Japan:

MEXT offers scholarships to highly eligible international students to pursue their master studies and research in the field of civil and environmental engineering.

Fields of study:

Infrastructure Management, Transportation Planning, Environmental Engineering, Ecological Engineering, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, Concrete and Material Engineering, Structural and Wind Engineering, and Earthquake Engineering.

The program covers courses that are specifically designed for international students, and the medium of teaching is English. Also, both the master theses and PhD dissertations are accepted in English, and some Japanese languages course are also offered for international students. However, the Japanese language is not a requirement of the program. The program either starts at the beginning of April or the end of September.

It needs a regular full-time attendance of two years for a Master’s degree in Engineering and three years for a doctoral of Engineering and Philosophy degree.

Admissions eligibility:

For applying through the university recommendation (available only for Ph.D. applicant), the applicant must:

  • Be a citizen of a country where the Japanese Government Scholarship is offered.
  • Be less than 35 years old as of April 1st of the application year.
  • Return to their countries of origin upon completion of the study
  • Neither of the scholarships is extendable beyond the specified time

Note:

  • Students who want to enroll without the department-administered scholarships must pay, by another means, for his/her study at Saitama University.

Selection criteria and process:

Evaluation of applicants will be done according to the candidate’s academic background, achievement, and research potential drawn from previous academic credentials, recommendation letters, and the essays submitted on particular topics. Afterward, the list of candidates nominated by the relevant department of the scholarship is sent to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japanese Government (MEXT), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and World Bank (WB) for their last approval. Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for online interviews or other suitable means for more evaluation during the selection process.

It is to be noted that interview details will only be sent out to those who have already been short-listed by the selection committee.
