International students who wish to pursue a Master’s or doctoral degree at Northwestern Polytechnic University (NPU) can apply for various scholarships of NPU, which are now open to international students. The fully funded scholarships seek to provide high-performing and talented students with an outstanding opportunity to study at one of the globally recognized and leading Chinese universities. NPU President scholarship has three levels:

    1. First level: Tuition, accommodation fees waived, living allowances provided.
      • Undergraduate: 1500RMB/month*12months
      • Master: 2000RMB/month*12months
      • PhD: 3500RMB/month
    2. Second level: Tuition fee waived.
    3. Third level: 50% tuition fee waived.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants can review the admission and scholarship requirements as follows:

  1. Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy and free from infectious diseases or disorders hindering study.
  2.  Applicants for master’s programs must be under 30 by September 1st, 2024, and under 35 for PhD.
  3. Master’s program applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree by September 1st, 2023, and Ph.D. applicants should have a master’s degree by September 1st, 2024.
  4. Learning Ability:
    • Average score of 75% and above for general applicants.
    • Average score of 80% and above for CSC scholarship applicants.
    • GRE or GMAT scores may be submitted as additional evidence.
  5. Language Proficiency:
    • Chinese: HSK Level 5 (200 or above)
    • English: The requirements for CSC and other scholarship applicants vary, with specific requirements for the IELTS 6.5 or above, TOEFL iBT 85 or above, and Duolingo English Test 125 or above.
  6. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with valid passports.
    • Former Chinese citizens must hold current country passports or citizenship certificates for at least four years, plus two years of recent “proof of residence.”
    • Applicants with Chinese citizen parents need specific supporting documents regarding nationality or cancellation of Chinese citizenship.

Application Documents (necessary):

  • Valid passport copy (personal information page). For applicants in mainland China, include a scanned copy of the valid visa or residence permit page.
  • Undergraduate diploma copy or pre-graduation certificate (original or notarized).
  • Transcripts for each undergraduate semester/academic year. International standardized test scores like GRE or GMAT are acceptable.
  • Two recommendation letters from professors (associate professor or higher).
  • Study and research plan for China (use a provided template).
  • Language certificate in Chinese or English, unless:
    • Native Chinese speakers applying for Chinese-medium courses.
    • Native English speakers were applying for English-medium courses.
  • Non-criminal record (valid for six months).
  • Acceptance letter from a supervisor (optional for master applicants, advantageous if provided).
  • Recognized awards or research achievements (if any).
  • “Physical Examination Form for Foreigners” copy (valid for six months).
  • Bank statement.
  • Any other required supplementary materials.
  • Art/design portfolio for architecture or design majors.

Application Process

Application and Selection Procedure are as follows:

Step 1: Documents Preparation

    • Ensure all requirements are met and prepare application materials accordingly.

Step 2: Complete the online application

    • Create an account and log in to the NPU online application portal.
      • The NPU online application portal is the sole acceptable gateway.
      • Upon application validation, pay a non-refundable fee of 600 RMB (about 100 USD).
      • Use a valid email address for registration; all notifications will be sent there.
      • Upload the required documents before the deadline.

Step 3: Application Materials Review

    • The Admissions Office authenticates materials.
    • Academic schools assess applicants’ academic competency within approximately ten working days.
    • Applicants must monitor the review status and their email promptly for process updates and feedback.

Step 4: Examination/Interview

    • Qualified applicants receive e-mail notifications regarding examination or interview details.
    • Results are announced via email a week after the examination or interview.

Step 5: Registration Deposit

    • Pre-admitted students must pay a 2000 RMB registration deposit to secure admission seats, refundable upon on-site registration (around November-December of the academic year).

Step 6: Mailing of Admission Documents

    • Provide valid addresses for admission documents to be mailed after confirmation.

Step 7: Registration

    • Registration typically occurs from late August to early September 2024.
      • Failure to register without reason will result in cancellation of admission and scholarship.
    • Admitted candidates must apply for a study visa at Chinese embassies or consulates abroad and then register at NPU on time with the required documents.
