Applicants from Afghanistan and Central Asian countries are invited to apply for 5-day workshop “ the Policy Paper Writing Seminar” to enhance their practical writing skills, how to present the result of their researches and arguments. The program is fully funded and will be organized by OSCE Academy in Kyrgyzstan.

Learning objectives: To enhance the practical writing skills of participants to present results of their research and arguments in formats and styles effective for policy audiences.

 

Description:

The Seminar will be organized at OSCE Academy from October 21 to 25, 2019 in Kyrgyzstan. This training program provides the opportunity for young scholars activists and policy-makers to develop their skills of practical, policy-relevant writing and communication. Academic work and the policy field often reveal a gap between them, leaving policymakers in want of serious analysis and research, and academics unable to inform policy, based on their research. The policy paper writing seminar is aimed at training a group of young researchers and professionals from Central Asia and Afghanistan to bridge that gap and become effective participants of sound policy discussions in the region. The most successful policy papers produced within the framework of this program will be published in relevant OSCE Academy publications. Sessions will include lectures, class discussions, group work, and peer-editing sessions. The concluding day of the training will be devoted to presenting policy papers in front of peers and interested audience.

Who is eligible to apply?

applicants should be from the following countries:

  • five Central Asian states and Afghanistan holding BA or MA degrees, residing in one of these countries.

How to apply?

Applicants can submit the following documents in a single MS Word document of no more than 4 pages, all in English, saved as Mr/Ms_Name_Surname_PPWS to the submission email indicating “International Policy Paper Writing Seminar” in the subject line of the email.

  • A CV (max two pages)
  • A letter of motivation up to 400 words;
  • A one-page policy paper proposal on a regionally relevant topic.

Selection and schedule

 

Successful candidates will be selected and informed by 1 October, 2019. All the trainees are expected to complete and submit their paper by November 20, 2019. Invited training participants will be required to fully attend the program, complete all training activities and make tangible progress in producing their individual policy papers.
