Overview

USM Global Fellowship was introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia on 30 July 2012. It aimed to ensure a bright future for Malaysia by attracting brilliant talents from all corners of the world to study their Ph.D. at USM. The Institute of Postgraduate Studies (ISP) administers this fellowship program.

In fact, this Fellowship indicates that Malaysia is ready to acknowledge and cherish knowledge and experience with the world. The purpose of the USM Global Fellowship is to enhance nation-building, synergize global talents, and to foster a greater knowledge society through the global talents it has engaged.

Therefore, the USM Global Fellowship accepts applications from all nationalities across the world who dream of pursuing full-time doctoral studies in various research fields with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Apply for this if you view the world from a different angle.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates meeting the following requirements are eligible:

• Currently registered Ph.D. holders of USM are ineligible to apply
• Applicants of all citizenship not older than 40 years on the date of application.
• Not be a beneficiary of any financial support or sponsorship from any organization or education institution.
• Should have an excellent health status

• Qualified only for FULL-TIME research mode student (non-registered)

Academic Qualification:

Candidates should have:

• Earned a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA ≥ 3.50 from any recognized local or foreign universities, and
  achieved a Master’s Degree (Course Work / Mixed Mode) with CGPA ≥ 3.50 or by Research Mode from any renowned local or foreign universities.
• At least has two journals published in ISI/SCOPUS/ERA.

USM will prioritize candidates with the following credentials:

• Good communication skills and proficiency in English is an addition.
• A minimum score of 35 for TOEFL (IBT); OR
• At least Band 5 for IELTS; OR
• A minimum score of 36 for PTE; OR
• A minimum score of 154 for CAE/CPE

Candidates are exempted if:

• English is their mother or National Language; or
• The candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning where the language of instruction at Bachelor and/or Master degree level in English; or
• They took English courses from selected Malaysian public/private universities or institutions. (The level of qualification and the related courses have to be already identified and verified by the University Postgraduate Studies Council).
• Evidence of article publications in the above-mentioned journals (at least 2 publication) reports of ISI/SCOPUS/ERA must be annexed.
• Possess good leadership skills with good personality characteristics.
