McDonnell International Scholars Academy at Washington University St. Louis offers McDonnell Scholars Fellowship to prospective graduate students applying to undertake an eligible full-time graduate or professional degree program at Washington University in St. Louis. The Academy looks for those scholars who have exceptional academic rigor and commitment to resolving global issues and learning about global leadership.

Benefits

McDonnel offers both financial and programmatic support to its scholars such as.

  • Full tuition scholarship in a doctoral or master’s degree program. This support will continue as long as the Scholar is making convincing progress toward a degree for up to five years.
  • A 12-month living allowance for each year as long as the Scholar is making satisfactory progress toward a degree. This stipend is amounting to $28,000 per academic year. (Some Ph.D. programs offer more stipend funds.
  • A one-time travel allowance of up to $1500 for travel to St. Louis as an Academy Scholar.
  • Travel support for one or more extended trips to a partner university of the McDonnell Academy, to be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
  • Exclusive opportunity to live with other McDonnell Scholars in appealing, yet affordable apartments within walking distance to campus.
  • Cultural and leadership training
  • Individual mentorship by a devoted faculty
  • Global network of students and alumni from across countries and courses.
  • Furthermore,  It welcomes applicants from various degree programs and countries to enrich the diversity of the program.

Eligibilities

  • The academy’s international scholars graduate program is open to potential graduate and professional degree scholars from all over the world; however, preference will be given to the academy’s partner universities.
  • Applicants must first apply to an eligible master’s or Ph.D. program at Washington University. See the program list here.
  • Application to the academy is in addition to the application for a WashU program (they must apply separately to both the Academy and to the University’s master or doctoral program).
  • Applicants must have obtained or plan to earn a bachelor’s degree or higher prior to the end of the 2020-21 academic year.
  • Undergraduate students are not eligible for this program.

Selection

The academy’s admissions committee will begin the assessment of applications after they are received.

Notification of results

Typically, it will notify applicants of their admission by the end of March, and usually no later than mid-April 2021.
