Wellcome Trust Organization in the United Kingdom offers these awards to enable humanities and social science researchers to acquire permanent positions in academic institutions. Benefits

This award covers:

  • Research-related and travel costs to attend meetings

If you’re a Non-UK applicant, and your host organization is in the UK, you’re guaranteed confirmation of the Tier 1 Global Talent visa application should you be awarded the fellowship.

If you have a team spending at least 50% of their time on the research, they will also be eligible for a Tier 1 visa.

Eligibility requirements

  • You can apply for this award if you’ve been nominated by a head of department at a qualifying academic organization.
  • The head of the academic organization (or someone with similar authority) must be able to guarantee that you’ll gain a permanent academic position at the end of the University Award.
  • You should hold a Ph.D. or the equivalent experience and have developed a competitive track record in a related area of research.
  • The academic organization should be in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, or a low- or middle-income country (except China).
  • Your sponsoring organization must guarantee that you’ll get the space and resources you need. This must be agreed at the application phase and provided from the beginning date through to the end date of your award.
  • If you hold a permanent academic post, you are ineligible to apply for this award.
