About the prize

With support from Nanjing Agriculture University, the Global Confederation of Higher Education Association for Agriculture and Life Sciences (GCHERA), annually, offers the World Agriculture Prize to an academic or faculty member of a higher education institution for significant lifetime achievements. The purpose of this prize is to promote and encourage the global development of the mission of higher education institutions in education, research, and innovation in agricultural and life sciences areas.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be from a developing country.
  • Must be a member of an academic/faculty of a higher education institution or university for two-thirds of their professional careers.
  • For one prize, the applicant must be a developing economy having been employed by a university or research institution in one or more developing countries for at least 2/3 of h/her professional career.
  • For the second prize, the applicant can be someone who has worked either in a developing or developed economy whose selection rests solely on merit.
  • Applicants who are applying for the second time are not eligible.
  • Any governmental or non-governmental organizations, academic institutions can nominate an individual for the World Agriculture Prize.
  • Organizational nominators may submit as many nominations as they see appropriate.
  • An individual can also nominate on h/her behalf if the nomination is confirmed by and submitted through an institution.

Required documents:

  • Personal information of both the nominator/nominating organization and nominee.
  • The organization’s supporting letter.
  • Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae, education and position details, professional affiliations, awards, and achievements.
  • Recent photo of the nominee.
  • Applicant’s abstract of achievements about 1000 characters or less.
  • Accomplishment statement not more than two pages, including achievements descriptions and how they enhance the program missions and their impact.
  • Impact statement no longer two pages.
  • Recommendation/nominating letter from a person or organization who knows the applicants very well.
  • Letter of recommendation from two people who know the applicant’s work, achievements made a significant impact on the people, but the references must not have direct association with the applicant’s organization directly.
  • Other supporting documents.
  • Online nomination form.
