Opportunity Description

Mahindra Humanities Center of Harvard University is inviting submissions from any humanistic field for six one-year postdoctoral fellowships on the issue of the environmental humanities are up for grabs. They define the environmental humanities broadly, taking into account all geographic regions and time periods. Humanistic approaches to climate change, biodiversity, social justice, environmental justice, food justice, regenerative practices, gardening, landscape design, urban foraging, health, and animal research are just a few examples of possible topics.

They encourage submissions from academics from all disciplines whose work creatively integrates the environment and the humanities. Fellows will be active participants in the biweekly seminar meetings for both academic semesters of the fellowship in addition to working on their personal research projects. Other participants will include academic staff, graduate students, and occasionally visiting speakers from Harvard and other nearby universities. The Intergenerational Humanities (I-HUM) Project on the theme of “Place and Planet” as well as the Center’s current Environment Forum will both be encouraged to engage fellows.

Eligibilities:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree or terminal degree received their degree in/ after May 2020.
  • Those applicants who are not able to provide their Ph.D. degree or Terminal degree, are required to complete all requirements for a terminal degree like dissertation defense up to 1 August 2023.
  • Applicants must be able to attend the fellowship at Harvard University, USA
  • Be Able to Get J-1 Visa (Research Scholar status) or F-1 OPT (Optional Practical Training)

Note: Applicants cannot have performed their research during the appointed time, the awards will be canceled.

  • Research plan for the research project (explain your research propose during the fellowship) about 1000-3000 words).
  • A writing sample about one chapter (not more than 40 pages).
  • Three letters of recommendation including the referee’s contact address
