Opportunity Description

The Asian Development Bank-ADB Scholarship applications are open to ADB member countries at the University of Hong Kong. The ADB scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship program offered to qualified applicants at different universities around the globe, especially at the University of Hong Kong, to study for a Master of Science in Urban Planning and Urban Design.

The ADB scholarship was launched in 1988 and supported by the Japanese government. This scholarship aims to provide opportunities for applicants from developing countries to conduct their Master’s degrees in some available fields at designated Institutions.

Benefits of the ADB Scholarship

Selected Fellows will benefit from the scholarship scheme as follows:

Note: Scholars conducting research may qualify for a grant to assist with thesis preparation. Depending on specific circumstances, this grant may also cover additional courses such as computer literacy or preparatory language.

Eligibilities

All applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Be a national of an ADB borrowing member country and a Japanese ODA scholarship-eligible country.
  • Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Have gained admission to an approved master’s course at a Designated Institution.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
  • Have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience acquired after a university degree at the time of application.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English communication skills.
  • Be no more than 35 years old at the time of application unless waived in exceptional cases with the expressed endorsement of the Government of Japan.
  • Be in good health.
  • Agree to return and work in their home country for at least two (2) years after completing studies under the Program to contribute to its development.
  • Not be an Executive Director, Alternate Director, management, staff, or consultant of ADB, or close relative of the aforementioned.
  • Not be staff of ADB–JSP Designated Institutions.
  • Not be living or working in a country other than their home country.
  • Not be already enrolled in graduate degree programs.

ADB Scholarship application procedures are as follows:

  • Contact the University of Hong Kong for information and application forms.
  • Notify the University of your application for admission and interest in the ADB–JSP Scholarship.
  • Submit completed University application forms and necessary documentation, including the ADB–JSP application sheet form.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all submitted documents.
  • Submit the latest Income tax return or certification of annual/monthly salary and certification of family income (parent’s income).
  • Send scholarship applications at least six months before the planned study commencement.
