Program Overview:

Fukuoka City International Foundation and Rainbow International Student Fund offer the following scholarships to help international students enrolled in the Fukuoka Metropolitan Area. Its main purpose is to reduce the financial pressures on students so that they can study better.

Types of Scholarships

There are three scholarships, “Yokatopia Scholarship for International Students”, “Future Development Scholarship for International Students”, and “Fukuoka City International Foundation Scholarship”.

  1. Yokatopia Scholarship for International Students (work experience opportunity also provided)

This scholarship is offered to those international students wishing to work in Fukuoka. It also has work experience opportunities at a local community.

Further conditions:

Stipend: 60,000 yen/month

Number of recipients: 6 students

Duration: one year (extendable based on conditions)

Eligibility

Applicants with these criteria are eligible:

  • Be postgraduate or undergraduate students in the second year or above at a university in the Fukuoka Metropolitan Area.
  • Applicants’ total awarded scholarship amount, including this one, should not exceed the amount of MEXT Monbukagakusho) scholarship

Selection period:  From early April to May (predicted)

  1. Future Development Scholarship for International Students

 

It is awarded by businesses, institutions, and individuals and allows the scholarship donators to meet the students face to face

Further conditions:

 

Stipend:  500,000 yen or more for master’s students

For bachelor’s students 300,000 yen or more (depending on the scholarship providers)

Duration: One year (extendable based on conditions and scholarship providers’ decisions)

Eligibility

  • Students who are enrolled at a university in the Fukuoka Metropolitan Area
  • Applicant’s total awarded scholarship amount, including this one, should not exceed the amount of MEXT Monbukagakusho) scholarship (again depending on the scholarship providers)

Selection period: scheduled from mid-April to late May.

Desirably eligible candidates are:

  • Eager to work in Fukuoka in the future.
  • Interested to interact with Japanese people
  • Keep in touch with Fukuoka City International Foundation after graduation.

Eligibility

  • Live outside of japan while applying for the scholarship and would be required to enroll in the below-mentioned universities:
  • Kyushu Sangyo University, Seinan Gakuin University, Nakamura Gakuen University, Fukuoka University, Fukuoka Institute of Technology, Kyushu University, Fukuoka Women’s University, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University (bachelor’s or master’s students)
  • Applicant’s total awarded scholarship amount, including this one, should not exceed the amount of MEXT Monbukagakusho) scholarship
  • Have at least N3 of JLPT or its equivalent of N3 Japanese ability

Scholarship modality

  1. Master students can receive this scholarship for 2 years and undergraduate students can be awarded the scholarship for four years

Further conditions:

Application period: by the end of March

Stipend:  50,000 yen/month

Number of beneficiaries: up to ten students

Duration: two years for master and four years for undergraduate students
