Background:

Seoul National University’s online application for International Admissions, Graduate degree 2022, has opened. Seoul National University is known for its unique curriculum and is internationally renowned for producing incredible leaders and scholars in their related fields. SNU welcomes students from various backgrounds, as it realizes that international students generate varying thoughts and contribute to an exceptionally dynamic learning environment.

Preliminary admission notice: May 23rd, 2024

Original document submission: May 23- June 7, 2024

Final Admission result: June 28, 2024

Registration(Enrollment Confirmation) July – August 2024

Korean Proficiency Test: August 2024

Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)

Who can apply?

Students from Asian countries, excluding Japanese and Chinese nationals, who wish to study one of the designated graduate programs

* The programs eligible for this scholarship are subject to change and different by applicants’ nationalities. The eligible programs list is announced every semester.
Number of Recipients: Approximately 20

Benefits of scholarships:

  • Tuition fee: full tuition exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters
  • Living expenses: 500,000 KRW per month (different according to recipients’ majors)

Application Period: During the admission period for international students every semester

Silk-Road Scholarship

Eligibility

Applicants from the countries in the ‘Silk-Road’ region who want to study humanities or social sciences, including Korean language, history, culture, politics, and economics
Number of Recipients: About 5 new graduate students
Subsidies

  • Tuition fee: full tuition fee exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters
  • Living expenses: maximum of 600,000 KRW per month for 4 semesters
  • Airfare: maximum of 1 million KRW for one economy round trip
  • Korean language training fee: fee exemption at the Language Education Institute

Overseas Koreans Scholarship

Eligibility

Overseas Korean students who wish to earn graduate degrees at SNU

Benefits:

  • Full tuition exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters (when conditions are met)
  • Living expenses: 900,000 KRW per month 4 semesters (maximum)
  • Airfare for one economy round trip
  • Korean language training fee: fee exemption at the Language Education Institute for 6 months
  • Medical insurance subscription (private company)

Application Period

February or March (Once per year, the Recruitment period is about one month)

Applicants submit applications (apply online and print) and other documents to Korean embassies in their countries → The embassies make the first selection → The Overseas Koreans Foundation makes the second selection.

Korea Embassy announces Global Korea Scholarships (GKS) for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees.

 

Admissions Requirements

International applicants must meet the below admissions eligibility for the scholarship by August 31, 2023. The applicants should:

  • Not hold Korean citizenship.
  • Master’s/ Combined Master’s & Doctoral: Have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • PhD: hold a master’s degree or higher
  • Applicant who holds foreign citizenship over Korean nationality OR an applicant who has canceled his/her Korean citizenship from dual (Korean and foreign) nationality should submit official proof of renunciation of Korean nationality (e.g., Certificate for renunciation of Korean citizenship, Korean residence registration as a foreigner, etc.).

Proof of language proficiency: submit proof of either Korean or English proficiency. Applicants for the College of Business Administration must submit TOPIK level 6 of Korean proficiency.

Required Documents

 

All required documents must be original and in English or Korean . If unavailable, copies must be translated into Korean or English and attested by the issuing institution (s). Submitted documents will not be returned under any conditions. For the academic year of 2022, all documents should be au

  • Study plan
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Personal statement
  • A copy of the applicant’s valid passport
  • Academics transcripts and diploma
  • nationality certificate of applicants and parents
  • Proof of Language skills (TOEFL 80, TOPIC 3 )

Note: College of art needs to provide portfolio and pledge as well.

Evaluation Criteria

Admissions to the SNU are evaluated based on the following:

  • Academic achievements
  • Related extracurricular activities
  • Enthusiasm expressed in the field
  • Language proficiency, and
  • Performance excellence

Note: applicants may be asked to undertake interviews, examinations, or performance tests depending on the policy of the particular college or department. In such a case, the applicant will be individually notified.
