Opportunity Description

Introduction:

The Department of Political Science intends to recruit an excellent graduate with an MA degree in Political Science or other closely related fields such as Economics or Sociology. The appointed applicant will work as a PhD Fellow on the ERC project ‘The Emergence, Life, and Demise of Autocratic Regimes’ (ELDAR). The fellowship period is four years; 75% of the time will be allocated to research, 12.5% to project administration and another 12.5 % to teaching.

ELDAR will discover three aspects of autocratic politics: 1) the advent of autocratic regimes; 2) policymaking in autocracies in the areas of education, infrastructure, and industrial & social policies, and media regulation; and 3) autocratic regimes collapse. Moreover, the research project will address the priorities and capabilities of vital players in autocratic politics _the leader, groups supporting the regime, and mobilized opposing groups. The team members will study the particular and varying institutions that support autocratic regimes.

The project will run under the leadership of Professor Carl Henrik Knutsen and is sponsored by an ERC Consolidator Grant. The project team comprises several internationally leading scholars on autocratic politics and political regimes at the University of Oslo (UiO) and partner institutions.
