Who can apply?
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements you must be:
- a non-Chinese citizen.
- in good physical and mental health, with excellent academic and personal conduct.
- aspired to pursue future careers in teaching or international promotion of the Chinese language.
- a high school graduate holding a valid high school diploma.
- under 25 years old (calculated as of September 1, 2026).
- proficient in the Chinese language based on the chosen major:
- For Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Chinese Language and Culture, or Business Chinese: Achieve a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK Test (Intermediate Level).
- For Chinese Language and Literature: Achieve a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 5) and 60 on the HSKK Test (Intermediate Level).
Required Documents
Ensure you prepare the following documents in either English or Chinese (documents in other languages must include notarized translations):

- International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Application Form.
- Copy of a valid passport. (Applicants under 18 must provide certified designation documents signed by their legal guardians in China).
- Highest diploma (high school diploma) and academic transcripts (original or notarized photocopies).
- A detailed Study or Research Plan (minimum 800 words, written in Chinese or English).
- Recommendation letters from the recommending institution.
- Photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for 6 months).
- Valid HSK and HSKK Certificates (valid for 2 years).
- CSCA Scores.
- Non-criminal Record Certificate (notarized photocopy).
- Proof of application fee payment (800 RMB).
How to apply?
Follow these steps to submit a complete application:
Step 1: Online Application and Fee Payment
- Register and apply online via the ECNU International Student Application Portal.
- Pay the non-refundable application fee of 800 RMB through the portal.
- Submit the ICLTS online application via the Center for Language Education and Cooperation website between March 1 and May 15, 2026. You must select a recommending institution during this process.
Step 2: Review and Interview Process
- ECNU will conduct a preliminary eligibility review.
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a video interview organized by the School of International Chinese Studies via email.
- Final scholarship results will be subject to confirmation by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation.
Step 3: Admission and Enrollment
- Admitted students must log in to the application portal to download their electronic Admission Notice and JW202 Form.
- Students must register on the specified date with their original graduation certificates.
