Applications are open for the Online Master’s Program in Sustainable Development co-designed by the SDG Academy, an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Sunway University-Malaysia, and University College Dublin (UCD)-Ireland. So, interested applicants can choose to apply to either Sunway University or University College Dublin (UCD).

Format or f the programs

  1. Sunway University MSc program:

Sunway University offers a 12-month, full-time Master’s in Sustainable Development Management (MSDM) program that will equip students with the system-level thinking necessary for achieving sustainable development.

The classes will be conducted at time slots convenient for students undertaking the program. Each class will be co-taught by Sunway faculty members and SDG Academy experts.

Duration: The program will consist of four 11-week terms or 12 months.

Entry Requirements for application to Sunway University Program

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00, or equivalent from a reputable  Institution of Higher Education, as recognized by the University’s Senate; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) with CGPA below 2.50 out of 4.00 or its equivalent qualifications can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years of work experience in related field; OR
  • Any other equivalent professional degree recognized by the Malaysian Government.
  • For international applicants, minimum scores in any of the following English competency tests are mandatory:
    • IELTS (6.0)/ CEFR B2
    • TOEFL PBT (550) or  IBT (75)
    • Cambridge English Advanced (180)/ CEFR B2; or Cambridge English Proficiency (180)/ CEFR C1
    • PTE ACADEMIC (50)
    • Malaysian University English Test (Band 4).

Note: In case a student does not fulfill this criteria, the HEP offers English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is ok to meet the needs of the program. This is normally done through an English language proficiency assessment.

Entry criteria

Applicants who meet the following criteria can apply to the UCD M.S.c program:

  • A primary degree with at least Second Class Honours Grade 1 (2H1) in a related subject such as environmental science, architecture, planning, and environmental policy, education, business, public health, physiotherapy, law, medicine, political science, international relations, social science, sociology, history, geography, economics, global studies, public policy, development studies, EU studies, law. 2H1 is equivalent to 60 percent, B minus, or 3.08 GPA – in the American system: B or 3.00 GPA.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English should have met TOEFL, IELTS, or computer-based TOEFL requirements (600, 6.5, or 250 respectively), or the Cambridge English Test (Certificate in Advanced English at a minimum of Grade B, or Certificate of Proficiency in English at Grade C). Candidates who obtained a previous degree from an English-speaking university may be exempted from this requirement.
